Book Suggestions

Angie and I are close to deciding on the next book. However, if you can think of any great Christian books or authors that we should consider for the spring - and in the future - please leave a comment in this post. There are so many good books out there and we definitely haven't made a final decision yet.

What would encourage and inspire YOU?

Thank you in advance for your help!

We will also be posting our wrap-up to Same Kind of Different As Me later today, so be sure to check back tonight.

  4. I just recently started reading Karen Kingsbury and I think that her stories are ones that many of the Bloom members could relate too. Redeeming Love would also be really good too. If it is more a bible study book that you are looking for I think that everyone would enjoy Captivating.

  5. Two books that I found to be challenging and stretching over the past year were Adopted for Life by Russell Moore and Embracing Your Freedom by Susie Larson.

Whatever the book, I am looking forward to joining you this time! I found your site in the past month and I am very excited to participate!

  7. I'd like to read one of Sheila Walsh's books. I just finished Beautiful Things Happen When a Woman Trusts God and I really enjoyed it.

  8. We have a good series of books but I don't know that we want to do a series, especially of fiction. Black, Red, White, and now Green, by Ted Dekker (individual books). Um, I read a good book, I think it was called Transgression but I can't remember who wrote it. Oh, here it is. http://www.amazon.com/Transgression-City-God-Randall-Ingermanson/dp/0736901957 I guess it's a series too.

  13. The Hole in Our Gospel is good, and if you're looking for fiction, The Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers is amazing, they're longer books though, but well worth it! Under the Overpass by Michael Yankowski is good too. Looking forward to another great book!!

  15. Abbas Child- Brennan Manning....I think if we all would be honest, we could really benefit from a book like this! It was life changing for me!

  16. Redeeming Love, Captivating, So Long Insecurity and for fiction Karen Kingsbury and Kristen Billerbeck are some of my favorites.

  17. I'm all for fiction written by Francine Rivers. But I also think I'd like to do Beth Moore's new book "So Long Insecurity". The book by Corrie Ten Boom also perks my interest.

  18. Corrie ten Boom's "The Hiding Place" was my first thought.

I also love to discuss Francine Rivers' books about female Bible "heroes." "Unveiled", "Unashamed", "Unshaken", "Unspoken" and "Unafraid" are about Tamar, Rahab, Ruth/Naomi, Bathsheba and Mary (respectively) and are a fictionalization of what they might have been thinking/feeling.

  19. oops.....
    "I'd also love to discuss...."

  20. "Don't Waste Your Life" by John Piper...good stuff!

  21. Lies Women Believe and the Truth that Sets them Free, Nancy Leigh Demoss.
I am a new follower. It took me about 2 weeks of evenings to get caught up on "Bring The Rain." I hope to join the next book discussion.

  23. My picks :)
The Hole in our Gospel (I got it for Christmas and haven't read it yet...I'd LOVE to read it with a group!!)

I also love Brennan Manning's books...

Or the Corrie Ten Boom sounds good to me too!

(I wonder if a lot of us are already doing the Insecurity book with Beth Moore's blog? Not sure, I could be wrong on that...I'm reading it along with her right now, BUT I know I will be able to use a re-read at any point!!) :)

  24. I have read and highly suggest all three books written by Immaculee Ilibagiza, a Rwandan, genocide survivor. Left To Tell, Led By Faith, and, Our Lady of Kibeho. You will pick these books up and want to finish them on the spot. You will finish one book and want to pick the others up immediately. Great books to read for book clubs, amazing, amazing, and, AMAZING:)!! Enjoy and my God bless each one who reads these books as much as He has blessed me while reading them.

  25. I would love to see us all go through Captivating together!
Blue Like Jazz is also an inspiring read.
I'm not into fiction so I'm hoping we don't go that route.

  26. I would suggest An Altar in the World by Barbara Brown Taylor. I'm not into fiction either.

  27. I would suggest a fiction book this time around. I thoroughly enjoyed "The Shack" and it made me do a lot of thinking during and after reading it.

  28. A good fiction book I read recently was Karen Kingsbury "This side of Heaven." WOW!!!! Really good.

  29. Yesterday in Ladies Bible Class at our church, the speaker quoted a few times from a book called "Messy Spirituality" and just from what I heard, it was great and I can't wait to go out and by a copy for myself!

  30. For fiction lovers, "A Sundog Moment" by Sharon Baldacci is fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Henri Nouwen's books are amazing! The Return of the Prodigal Son is the one I most recently read. It's short but very powerful. I'm also a huge fan of fiction so whatever you choose, I'm in!

  32. Girltalker Carolyn Mahaney recommended the book by Elisabeth Elliott called Let Me Be A Woman. I'm intrigued and would love to read it with other women. It doesn't look like an incredibly lengthy book, and it may be a great inexpensive option as it's been in print for quite some time. On Amazon, they're selling for 2 something right now.
Miss you Angie. It's Andrea from Grace Community several years ago. We have an Abby Grace too, another connection if you can't recall.

  33. Wow, so many great books! I can't wait to join you all as we read :)

A few suggestions I have (again, many great ones already mentioned above):

Some others by Susie Larson have been great reads..."Balance that Works When Life Doesn't" and "The Uncommon Woman"

I think Francine Rivers has a couple series sets that I've heard are incredible (I think one is called the Mark of the Lion series?)

I just don't even think you could make a bad choice, there are so many great and challenging books listed :)

Can't wait to hear what you all decide!

    Bless you,
    Liesl Irwin

  34. I've been with you guys since Crazy Love...you haven't made a bad choice yet!
I would love to do Redeeming Love by Francince Rivers...such an amazing story and sooo many lessons to learn in it.

  35. I just found Bloom recently and am anxious to join in on the next book. I'm open to any book as I'm a new Christian and still soaking it all in.

  36. I was going to say "hole in the gospel" but see it's already been mentioned. I also love Francine Rivers and Karen Kingsbury.

  37. "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett is good too. Also, if anyone is a fan...Francine Rivers and Beth Moore are doing a book signing this weekend in Houston for their new books. I believe the one tomorrow morning is at the Town and Country Village Barnes and Noble in Houston. I'll be there!!!

  38. The Hole in our Gospel, similar to Crazy Love, for me- as far as huge HUGE heart/life impact (yet different). Loved Same Kind of Different, marvelous choice. I also happened to read Immaculee's book about the Rwandan genocide recently, wow. Incredible. Love Francine Rivers too. Thanks, you girls are awesome!

  39. This is really late, but a fiction story that continues the "action" theme is "Scared" by Tom Davis. It's a novel, but based on true scenarios that truly makes us unable to say "I didn't know."
